Agreement in Principle 

We support the Blue Mountains Elk Initiative and its goals to improve the management of elk among all landowners, State and Federal agencies, Tribal Nations; and organizations in the Blue Mountains of Oregon and Washington.  This program illustrates our commitment to deal with elk and habitat issues through partnerships that rely on natural resource professionals, concerned citizens and groups, and Tribal Nations. 

The primary goal of the Initiative is to manage habitat more effectively through field activities.  Innovation is key to our success.  We intend to move forward in an open, active, and creative style to accomplish our goals, while recognizing and working toward the goals of state, federal, private, and tribal governments, and the trust responsibility of federal and state agencies to sovereign tribal nations. 

The Initiative reflects the importance of elk to the people of Oregon, Washington, and the entire nation.  Of equal importance is our collective recognition that elk affect nearly all landowners, industries, and recreationists in the Blue Mountains.  As such, management of elk requires close and open coordination between all interests.  This is another step in our efforts to manage this resource wisely for future generations.

This is a non-binding agreement in principle to continue to support BMEI
